First Aid - Emergency First Aid at Work (Level 3)

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this one-day course satisfies the requirements of the regulatory body for First Aid – the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) when an organisation’s risk assessment of First Aid needs identifies that there is a requirement for Emergency First Aid at Work practitioners.

The course will ensure that all learners will have the skills and knowledge to provide the organisation with Emergency First Aiders that can provide treatment to their casualties in a prompt, safe and effective manner.  It includes the following:

  • Responsibilities and reporting
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Assessment of the situation
  • Basic hygiene in First Aid
  • Resuscitation and AED awareness
  • Anatomy
  • Minor injuries
  • Bleeding control
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Epilepsy
  • Shock

The one-day course is a minimum of 6 contact hours, and will be delivered at the Cranford Avenue College site, with free parking available and refreshments and lunch provided.  Training can be delivered on site to meet business needs, please contact us to discuss a pre-course assessment of your premises.

A maximum of 12 students are allowed on all training sessions and there is no exam at the end of the course. Successful completion of course is based on continual assessment throughout the duration of the course and electronic certificates which are valid for 3 years will be distributed within 10 working days of the end of the course.

First Aid - Emergency Paediatric First Aid (Level 3)

Cost – £70

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this one-day course is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies and provides knowledge and skills to deal with a range of paediatric first aid conditionals and incidents.

The purpose of the qualification is for the learner to attain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations. It includes the following:

  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider
  • Primary survey
  • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED)
  • Wounds, bleeding and shock
  • Seizure
  • Choking
  • Minor injuries
  • Recovery position

The one-day course is a minimum of 8 contact hours, and will be delivered at the Cranford Avenue College site, with free parking available and refreshments and lunch provided.  Training can be delivered on site to meet business needs, please contact us to discuss a pre-course assessment of your premises.

This qualification is unit 1 of the two-day FAA Paediatric First Aid qualification and can be studied on its own or could lead to progression onto the two-day course.

A maximum of 12 students are allowed on all training sessions and there is no exam at the end of the course. Successful completion of course is based on continual assessment throughout the duration of the course and electronic certificates which are valid for 3 years will be distributed within 10 working days of the end of the course.

First Aid - Paediatric First Aid (Level 3)

Cost – £150

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this comprehensive two-day course is designed for learners with a responsibility for the care of children and babies on a professional level.

The qualification satisfies the guidelines and criteria as laid down by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Ofsted.

The purpose of the qualification is for the learner to attain the knowledge and practical competence required to deal with a range of paediatric first aid situations. It includes the following:

  • Role of the Paediatric First Aider
  • Primary survey
  • Resuscitation (CPR including the safe use of an AED)
  • Wounds, bleeding and shock
  • Allergic reactions including anaphylaxis
  • Head, neck and back injuries
  • Seizure
  • Choking
  • Minor injuries
  • Recovery position
  • Fractures
  • Foreign bodies
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • Asthma
  • Meningitis
  • Febrile convulsions
  • Extreme cold and heat
  • Electrical incidents

This course runs over 12 hours spread over at least 2 days, ideally over 2 consecutive days but can be arranged within a 6 week timeframe to accommodate business needs.

First Aid at Work - Requalification (Level 3)

Cost – £175

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this course is designed for those learners who currently hold a First Aid at Work qualification which is due to expire.

Please consider the following rules for attendance:

  • A First Aider can renew their FAW qualification by attending a two-day requalification, if it is within 1 month past the expiry date.
  • If the First Aider has lapsed by more than 1 month, but no longer than 3 months, then the First Aider can requalify by attending a two-day course providing special considerations have been applied. Please contact us to discuss your individual circumstances.
  • If the First Aider has lapsed beyond 3 months then they must attend a full three-day course.

First Aid at Work (Level 3)

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this comprehensive three-day course will give participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid, meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Mini Medics – First Aid for Children

Cost – £25 per attendee

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this three-hour course is aimed at children between the ages of 8 and 11 and offers a basic introduction to First Aid and Defibrillation.

Perfectly suited to primary schools or community groups and organisations such as cubs and brownies, this is a fun and interactive approach to teach children the importance of helping someone who is unwell or injured and is kept at a basic level with no use of confusing terminology.

The course covers the following:

  • What is First Aid?
  • Defibrillation
  • First Aid kits
  • Recovery position
  • Choking
  • Resuscitation (CPR)
  • DR ABC
  • Wounds and bleeding
  • Asthma
  • Shock
  • Safety
  • Communication and contacting the emergency services

All children who participate will receive a certificate of attendance and a Mini Medic workbook to take home with them.

Outdoor First Aid (Level 3)

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this two-day course is suitable for people who need a first aid qualification to provide first aid to someone who is injured, becomes unwell or is suffering from a medical emergency in a remote outdoor environment. This course is suitable for anyone working in a remote environment for those who want a ‘hands on’ practical course. Candidates are trained to be safe, confident responders; no previous first aid experience is required.

This is a 16-hour practical, scenario-based course designed as an introduction to first aid in an outdoor or remote environment. The course is very practical and the trainer will use a mixture of outdoor scenarios to simulate injuries found in a variety of outdoor incidents. During these scenarios, you experience being a first responder and a casualty giving a more rounded learning experience.

You will learn about:

  • Aims and Principles of First Aid, Safety, Infection Avoidance
  • Incident Management, Assessing and Managing Your Casualty in The Outdoors
  • Unresponsive Casualties, Basic Life Support and CPR, Recovery Position, Seizures, Choking, Drowning
  • External Bleeding, Shock, Minor Injuries (Geared Towards a Remote Environment)
  • Injuries to Bones, Muscles and Joints (Fractures, Dislocations, Sprains and Strains)
  • Head and Spinal Injuries, Chest Injuries
  • Burns
  • Tick Borne Infection
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Medical Emergencies (Heart Attack, AED – Defibrillator Training, Stroke, Epilepsy, Asthma, Diabetes)
  • Cold Injuries Including Hypothermia – Other Outdoor Environmental Hazards, Hyperthermia
  • First Aid Kits

Assessment is done by continuous observation and questioning during the course with a final practical assessment conducted on the last day.

Each student will receive a current first aid manual and electronic certificate valid for three years on successful completion of a practical assessment at the end of the course.
