As students face the daunting challenge of exam season, it’s crucial to prioritise mental health and wellbeing.

Weymouth College is proud of the level of support it offers students, not only academically but also in supporting their mental wellbeing during this demanding period.

As we mark Mental Health Awareness Week, here are some invaluable tips and advice to help you sail through exam season…

  1. Establish a Balanced Routine: Structure your days with a healthy balance of study, relaxation and self-care. Ensure you allocate time for breaks and physical activity to keep your mind and body refreshed.
  2. Break Tasks into Manageable Chunks: Tackling revision can seem overwhelming but breaking it down into smaller, manageable tasks can make it more achievable. Set realistic goals for each study session to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  3. Prioritise Self-Care: Remember to prioritise self-care throughout exam season. Get enough sleep, eat healthily and stay hydrated. Taking care of your basic needs is essential for maintaining focus and concentration.
  4. Practice Relaxation Techniques: Incorporate mindfulness and relaxation techniques into your daily routine to alleviate stress and anxiety. Whether it’s deep breathing exercises, meditation, yoga or going for a walk, find what works best for you to promote a sense of calm.
  5. Reach Out for Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out for support if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Whether it’s talking to a trusted friend, family member or a member of the Student Services team here at the College, expressing your feelings can provide relief and perspective.
  6. Stay Organised: Keep track of exam dates, deadlines and revision schedules to stay organised. Utilise planners, calendars or digital tools to help you stay on top of your workload and reduce last-minute stress.
  7. Be Kind: Be kind to yourself and practice positive self-talk. Replace negative thoughts with affirmations and reminders of your strengths and capabilities. Believe in yourself and your ability to overcome challenges.
  8. Take Breaks and Rest: Don’t underestimate the importance of taking breaks and allowing yourself time to rest. Overworking can lead to burnout and decreased productivity. Listen to your body and mind, and take breaks when needed.
  9. Celebrate Small Victories: Acknowledge and celebrate your progress and achievements, no matter how small they may seem. Reward yourself for reaching milestones along the way to keep yourself motivated and focused.
  10. Keep Things in Perspective: Remember that exams are just one aspect of your life, and they do not define your worth or future success. Maintain a balanced perspective, and don’t let the pressure of exams overshadow other aspects of your life.

As you navigate through exam season, remember that your mental wellbeing is paramount and at Weymouth College, we’re here to support you every step of the way.

This week, for Mental Health Awareness Week, the College’s Sports Centre is hosting at Wellbeing Walk at 12.15pm on Wednesday and free virtual exercise classes on Thursday.
