In Short
If you have already got some experience of Engineering or would like to specialise in Fabrication and Welding this study programme will develop your skills and knowledge to become an industry specialist.
The study programme is delivered through a combination of classroom based theory and practical workshop sessions over a number of mandatory and specialist units.
Entry Requirements
Successful completion of the Level 1 Welding & Fabrication course to a suitable level and relevant Functional Skills.
Course Content
- Working safely in an engineering environment
- Working effectively and efficiently in engineering
- Using and communicating technical information
- Using TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas)
- Using MMA (Manual Metal Arc) welding equipment
- Using MIG (Metal Inert Gas)
- Using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) equipment
How will I be assessed?
These course will be assessed using on-line exams, practical and theory assessments.
Progression
Welding in specialist areas can lead to an extensive career in:
- Pipeline
- Pipemills
- Process industry
- Heavy industry
- Offshore
- Ship building
- Maintenance and repair
- Transportation.
Completion of level 2 may lead to level 3 qualifications in welding and fabrication, engineering or apprenticeships in welding and fabrication.
Tools/Materials/Books
You are required to purchase your own Safety Boots / Shoes / Overalls
Tools / equipment will be supplied for your workshop practice
You are required to purchase the following items; Scientific Calculator, File, paper, pens, pencils and any other stationery as necessary
Fees
If you are aged 16-18 as of 31st August on the year of enrolment – no course fee.
If you are over 19 as of 31st August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases, please contact us for full information. Bursary Funds: There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
