Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this 2 day course is designed to teach people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.
This course is validated by Mental Health First Aid England.
The two-day course is split into 4 sections and successful completion will qualify you as a Mental Health First Aider. The course includes the following:
- In-depth understanding of mental health and factors that affect wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the signs and triggers of mental health issues
- Confidence to reassure and support a person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills
- Knowledge to help a person recover their health by guiding them to further support
The course is delivered through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop style activities, with the whole course built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan.
The course is delivered at the Cranford Avenue College site. Free parking is available and refreshments and lunch for each day will be provided. Training can be delivered on site to meet business needs, please contact us to discuss a pre-course assessment of your premises.
A maximum of 16 students are allowed on all training sessions and there is no exam at the end of the course. Each student will be awarded with a certificate of attendance, a manual and workbook.
Youth Mental Health First Aid

Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy, this two-day course is designed to teach people how to identify, understand and help a young person who may be experiencing a mental health issue.
This course is validated by Mental Health First Aid England.
This course trains you as a Youth Mental Health First Aider across four manageable sessions and is built around a Youth Mental Health First Aid action plan. The learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities.
You will come away with:
- An in-depth understanding of young people’s mental health and factors that affect wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to reassure and support a young person in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
- Knowledge to help a young person recover their health by guiding them to further support and engaging with parents, carers and external agencies where appropriate
- The ability to support a young person with a long-term mental health issue or disability to thrive
- Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing
Everyone who attends gets:
- A certificate of attendance to say you are a Youth Mental Health First Aider
- A Youth MHFA manual to refer to
- A workbook including some helpful tools to support your own mental health

This course, which is validated by Mental Health First Aid England, is designed to raise awareness of common mental health issues and how to help someone who may be experiencing mental ill health.
This one-day course trains you as a Mental Health First Champion across two manageable sessions. The learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities.
You will come away with:
- An understanding of common mental health issues
- Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
- The ability to spot signs of mental ill health
- Skills to support positive wellbeing
Everyone who attends will get:
- A certificate of attendance to say you are a MHFA Champion
- A manual to refer to whenever you need it
- A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan
- A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health
