In Short
You will acquire the relevant skills and underpinning knowledge in all areas of motor vehicle and, in particular, workshops skills. Our courses meet the requirements of employers and help you gain the skills needed for employment in today’s competitive work environment. We offer four levels of courses to fit your learning requirements.
Entry Requirements
- Selection is by interview
- Plus completion of the Level 1 and 2 Automotive Studies qualifications or equivalent , plus Level 2 English and maths
Course Content
- Health and safety
- Diagnose and rectify light vehicle system faults
How will I be assessed?
Various methods are used for assessment, these include projects, assignments, coursework and externally verified computer-based online examinations. You will have a portfolio to store your assessed work.
Progression
You can progress through your learning with Weymouth College from Entry Level right up to Level 3. After completion of Level 1, you may progress to Level 2 Automotive Studies or to our Apprenticeship programme. After completion of Level 2 and 3 the skills acquired help you gain employment within the industry, enrol on an Apprenticeship or Advanced Apprenticeship or move on to higher education. Those who completed Level 3 may also progress to the Certificate of Supervisory Studies within the automotive industry.
Tools/Materials/Books
The College library has an extensive lending and reference books, video and journal stock. It is essential that you provide your own overalls and safety shoes without which no practical work can be undertaken.
Fees
If you are aged 16–18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. Bursary funds There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
