In Short
This course provides an excellent introduction to the beauty industry. You will need to be prepared for the high standards required to work in this field, taking professional qualifications as well as covering the theoretical work required to become a professional beauty therapist. You will gain work experience in both the College and local beauty salons, and visit trade exhibitions such as Professional Beauty.
Entry Requirements
Selection is by interview, you must have a minimum of 3 GCSEs at level 4 (C) or equivalent including English, Maths and science. For progressing L1 students selection will be based on interview and successful completion of a trade test. All students must have good punctuality, a good attendance level, positive attitude to vocational area and if required continue to work towards English and Maths at Grade 4.
Course Content
You will study the following:
- Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks for health & safety
- Client care and communication
- Provide facial care treatment
- Enhance the appearance of eyebrows and eyelashes
- Provide eyelash lifting
- Carry out waxing services
- Provide manicure services
- Provide pedicure services
- Provide make-up services
- Fulfil salon reception duties
- Apply LED Gel polish
How will I be assessed?
You will be continually assessed throughout the course using:
- Appraisal of practical competence
- Oral assessment
- Written tests/online tests
- Portfolio work
- Assignments
Progression
On completion of this course you could gain employment in a beauty salon or progress to the Level 3 course which is recommended to advance your skills and widen your career opportunities.
Tools/Materials/Books
The College library has an extensive lending and reference book stock, in addition to videos and journals. Specific books will be advised nearer the time of study. You should set aside approximately £350 for equipment including books, correct footwear and uniform. You will also need to supply materials including tissues, cotton wool pads, cotton buds and spatulas.
Fees
If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment no course fee. If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. Bursary funds There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
