Performing arts students from Weymouth College will be given valuable insight and instruction from the University of Chichester’s MA touring company, mapdance, when they visit Dorset in February.

Following a workshop during the day, the students plan to host a ‘curtain raiser’ performanc, ahead of mapdance’s 2024 show at The Bay Theatre, at Weymouth College’s Cranford Avenue campus, on Wednesday, 21st February.

mapdance is an established, contemporary dance company whose last national tour saw repertoire by renowned and upcoming contemporary choreographers, with new works by Kay Crook, Seeta Patel and Luke Brown, as well as the re-staging of Gary Clarke’s piece ‘On Your Marks’, created especially for mapdance 2020.

For 2024, the company has commissioned new works by Yukiko Masui (SAY), Renaud Wiser and Carrie Whitaker (Lîla Dance), as well as re-staging Sarah Golding’s hugely popular work ‘STATE’.

The mixed repertory offers a refreshing mixture of dance theatre, fast-paced athleticism intricate lyrical choreography and humour. It is a programme that will appeal to both seasoned dance viewers and audiences new to dance and is of particular interest to dance students at GCSE, BTEC and A-Level and university level.

mapdanceoffers a tailor-made educational programme delivering workshops and longer-term residencies based on the company’s repertoire, culminating in custom ‘curtain raisers’, as will take place at The Bay Theatre.
