Multiply – Free Numeracy Courses at Weymouth College
At Weymouth College we are delighted to be a delivery partner in Multiply, which is a new government-funded programme to help adults across the UK to improve their numeracy skills.
So… what exactly is Multiply?
Launched in 2022, Multiply offers adults access to FREE numeracy courses with the opportunity to build confidence using numbers in daily life, home, and work and gain formal numeracy qualifications.
Our courses will help you understand and improve household finances, help your children with homework, make more sense of the stats and facts in the media, or improve numeracy skills specific to your line of work.
People who improve their numeracy skills are more likely to be in employment, have higher wages, and better wellbeing, and will be more able to progress to higher levels of free training to secure a skilled job in our economy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can benefit from Multiply?
You can be part of Multiply if you’re aged 19+ and don’t currently have maths GCSE at grade C (or equivalent) and live in the Dorset Council area. There are courses for beginners and those who want to build on existing maths knowledge.
As a business owner - could Multiply be good for your staff and your business?
Yes – businesses who develop their employees’ numeracy skills can boost productivity, increase profits, and also improve employee retention. Employers will be able to utilise Multiply courses to upskill their existing workforces, through our range of flexible and bespoke training, which will enable learners to progress onto work-ready Functional Skills in Maths or GCSE Maths.
Can I take more than one Multiply course?
You can only undertake one Multiply course in each funding year.

Preparation for Functional Skills Maths
This course will help you to prepare for a formal GCSE qualification in Maths. Many learners may have been out of education for some time and this course will help to break down maths anxiety and provide a friendly and relaxed approach to returning to the classroom. Learners who successfully pass will be enrolled onto a GCSE Maths qualification.
Preparation for GCSE Maths
A course designed to help prepare you to undertake a formal qualification at Entry to Level 2 maths. You will refresh your study skills, build your confidence and break down any barriers which have affected prior learning. Learners who successfully pass will be enrolled onto a Functional Skills Maths qualification at a suitable starting level.
Boosting Skills in the Workplace
Delivered face to face and online, this course is aimed at employees who are looking to progress within their existing roles, or move into supervisory positions but who lack the skills or confidence in numeracy. If you would like to learn more about dealing with budgets, stock ordering, payroll and much more then this is the course for you.
Helping Your Children with their Homework
These flexible sessions delivered online and face to face will help to increase parents and guardians’ confidence in helping your children with their maths homework. Content will include some basic numeracy skills as well as introducing you to teaching methods that match the way in which your children are learning maths in school, both primary and secondary.
Self-Employed Company Finances
This course is designed to help you to learn how to be able to part manage your company finances in preparation to send to your accountant. This will include the use of Quickbooks and Excel and includes training on paying staff (NI and Tax), VAT, managing a variable income.
Budget Busting
This face to face course will factor in aspects of your every day life such as; household budget management (including help with mobile phone contracts, credit and interest payments, bank accounts – interest and saving, universal credit payments, cost of living increases, energy bill worries), independent living skills and more. You will learn how to set up and monitor budget/finances using Excel.
Magic Maths
This course – delivered face to face – will cover basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills. If you struggle with maths in practical situations, we can help you to learn in a variety of ways; face to face, offsite – taking part in activities such as cooking, shopping, games and problem-solving based maths. This will be delivered in a supportive and enjoyable format to encourage talking about maths in a positive way.

DTA FREE Courses
Delivered through the Dorset Training Academy and awarded by NCFE/CACHE our range of courses provide a flexible learning approach. All courses are available to study online, with our staff and assessors on hand to support you throughout your qualification. Each course varies in duration between 8 and 12 weeks of study.
