This course is for you if you work in, or look to enter roles in assessment and internal quality assurance. The course will provide you with the opportunity to develop and improve your practice, as well as achieving a recognised qualification at the same time. It has been developed by LLUK to replace the Assessor and Verifier (A&V) units and is valid if you want to work in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Depending on your current role, you can pick and choose the units that you require.

Entry Requirements

You need to have achieved a minimum Level 3 in the specialism you wish to assess. You will also need to be able to assess two assessment candidates and process them through a recognised assessment centre.

Course Content

There will be a group induction programme at the College followed by 1:1 support from your personal tutor for up to 5 1/2 hours. Support meetings can take place in your own workplace at times that are convenient to you and your tutor. This course consists of three units, one of which is theory based. The structure of the units can be completed to suit your work needs. Units include: Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment. Unit 2: Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment. Unit 3: Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and understanding. Qualifications you can achieve: Award in Understanding the Principles and practices of Assessment Level 3 (Unit 1 only, 3 credits) This is a knowledge-only Award for those who are starting their journey as an assessor or for those who need to know about assessment practice but who are not currently practicing. Award in in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment Level 3 (Units 1 and 2, 9 credits) This is for practitioners who assess the demonstration of competence in a work environment using the following assessment methods: observation, examining work products, oral questioning and discussion, use of others, learner statements and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement Level 3 (Units 1 and 3, 9 credits) This is practitioners who assess knowledge and/or skills in vocationally-related subject areas who use the following assessment methods: assessments in simulated environments, skills tests, oral and written questions, assignments, projects, case studies and RPL. This may take place in training workshops, classrooms or other learning environments. Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement Level 3 (Units 1, 2 and 3, 15 credits) This is for practitioners who may use all of the above assessment methods based upon sound assessment principles.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is through completion of a portfolio of evidence together with professional discussion with your assessor.

Fees

Free courses for jobs – funding for Level 3 courses

If you are aged 19 + and looking to undertake additional study, your course could be fully funded by the government if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • If you are aged 19 – 23 and do not already hold a Level 3 qualification
  • If you are unemployed and in receipt of benefits,
  • If you are earning less than £25,000.00 annual gross salary

and

  • Meet the standard residency criteria for funding

Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment (Unit 301)

This course is for you if you work in, or look to enter roles in assessment and internal quality assurance. Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment (Units 301 and 302)

This course is for you if you work in, or look to enter roles in assessment and internal quality assurance. It has been developed by LLUK to replace the Assessor and Verifier (A&V) units and is valid if you want to work in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
