In Short

This qualification is for those who work or want to work as a Site Carpenter in the Construction Industry. It allows you to learn, develop and practice skills required for employment and/or career progression in Site Carpentry. On successful completion of this course you will be in a better position to find employment within the Industry. This could be in a College Apprenticeship Scheme or a CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) Scheme. It is not possible to become fully qualified unless you gain employment in the Industry and are assessed on site.

 

Entry Requirements

There are no age restrictions on this course. Carpentry & Joinery Diploma Level 1 or equivalent. Mature students with an interest in the Construction Industry are welcome on this course. You will require an interview with the course tutor for this course, demonstrating interest and commitment to study.

Course Content

You must achieve the following units: • Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction • Carry out First Fix Flooring and Roofing • Carry out First Fix Frames, Partitions and Stairs • Carry out Second Fixing Operations • Carry out Carpentry Maintenance • Set up and Operate a Circular Saw

How will I be assessed?

There is continuous assessment throughout the course. You will be assessed using the following methods: • Coursework with knowledge assignments • City & guilds e-volve online multiple-choice test • Multiple-choice question papers, covering knowledge outcomes • Practical assignments, covering performance outcomes

Progression

On successful completion of this course you will be in a better position to find employment within the Industry. This could be in a College Apprenticeship Scheme or a CITB (Construction Industry Training Board) Scheme. It is not possible to become fully qualified unless you gain employment in the Industry and are assessed on site. You may also be able to progress on to a Level 3 Diploma in Carpentry & Joinery qualification and employment in the industry.
