The broad purpose of the occupation is to provide high quality early education and care to children. Through an evidence-based approach, they provide opportunities and learning experiences for all children, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Early years educators follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by government for the learning, development, and care of children from birth to 5 in both indoor and outdoor environments. An employee in this occupation will be responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for children’s learning. They ensure that the learning environment and provision is inclusive and supports all children, and demonstrate a clear understand of equality, diversity, and inclusion. facilitate children’s learning play. They apply the observation, assessment, and planning cycle to support progress and children’s development. An early years educator will act as the key person for one or more children within their setting. They may play a leadership role within the setting or may act under the supervision of a manager

What Does the Role Involve?

  • Deliver Outstanding Education and Care: You will implement the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, fostering the learning, development, and care of children from birth to 5 years old in both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Champion Inclusion and Diversity: Create an environment that celebrates equality, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring all children feel valued and supported.
  • Facilitate Learning Through Play: Teach and guide children’s learning through play, providing stimulating opportunities that encourage creativity, curiosity, and confidence.
  • Monitor and Support Development: Apply the observation, assessment, and planning cycle to track and support children’s progress, helping them achieve developmental milestones.
  • Build Strong Relationships: Act as a key person for one or more children, fostering trust and partnership with families while providing personalized care and support.
  • Take on Leadership Opportunities: Whether guiding a team or contributing under the supervision of a manager, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the culture and success of your setting.

Entry Requirements

GCSE Grade C/4 Maths & English or Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths & English. Functional Skills can be completed during the apprenticeship if required and upon successful completion of initial assessment.

Applicants will also be assessed individually for suitability.

Duration

18 months + 3 months EPA

Progression

This apprenticeship aligns with Department for Education for Full and relevant at Level 3. Once qualified, you could move into management of a nursery or group of nurseries, work as a supply teacher, or gain UCAS points for a Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies, Care and Education.
