In Short
The aim of the course is to prepare you for the Eduqas GCSE Foundation tier examinations in Mathematics, although it may be possible to study and take examinations at the Higher tier.
Entry Requirements
GCSEs are one of the most valuable and widely accepted qualifications for many different careers. This course is designed for students who have already achieved a grade 3/D at GCSE or have a Level 2 Functional Skill and wish to or need to improve their grade.
If you do not hold the required qualification our 106 town centre campus can assist you with achieving a Level 2 Functional Skill in order to progress onto GCSE.
Course Content
Probability and statistics Finding averages, representing data in diagrams, calculating probabilities, Number Using decimals, fractions, percentages and ratios. Algebra Manipulating algebraic expressions, using formulae, solving equations, drawing graphs. Geometry and measures Using angles, working with named shapes, finding areas and volumes, doing transformations, using Pythagoras theorem.
How will I be assessed?
This course will be assessed by two examinations in May/June totaling 4 hours and 30 minutes. With one Non-calculator and one Calculator paper.
Progression
Mathematics is a subject which we all need in order to conduct our everyday lives, for example for checking pay slips, determining how many rolls of wallpaper are needed to re-decorate the hall, or just when going shopping.
In addition to its importance in our everyday lives, career progression and job opportunities can be dependent on your having a sound grasp of mathematics. Successful completion of this course will enable you to proceed to those Further and Higher Education courses where a GCSE Mathematics qualification may be a pre-requisite.
Tools/Materials/Books
You will need to purchase a scientific calculator. Besides pens, HB pencils and paper, you will also need mathematical equipment including a ruler, a protractor (full circle) and compasses. You will be advised of any revision guides required throughout the course.
Fees
If you have not already achieved GCSE maths C/4 or above you will be entitled to fee remission otherwise you will be required to pay a fee of £811.
