The Sport & Public Services department were awarded the Vtct Award for Sport in the Curriculum at the AoC Beacon Awards 2016/17.

“Weymouth College’s School of Sport and Public Services has been recognised for its continuous commitment in providing a high quality and inclusive sports curriculum for all levels and abilities. Working closely with partners to build on and maximise the legacy of hosting the sailing events in the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with strategic development and a proactive approach, the Sports team has established key partnerships with local schools, employers, community clubs, national governing bodies of sport, county sport partnerships and the local authority.

The School of Sport and Public Services expertly utilises a wide range of outstanding sports facilities which includes the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy.  The student apprenticeship programme based at the Academy demonstrates best practice and progression into employment.  Full-time students also complete additional industry recognised qualifications in Gym Instruction and watersports with the Royal Yachting Association helping them gain employment in the sector. Weymouth College has been acknowledged for delivering a comprehensive Sports Leadership Programme and is an accredited Sport Leadership Academy.”
