In Short
This qualification is designed to help learners build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people from birth to 19 years of age. It covers a diverse range of job roles and occupational areas working in children’s environments including early years and social care. It is suitable for all those who wish to work or are working in a supervised role in the Children and Young People’s Workforce in England.
Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 16 years old.
Course Content
Mandatory units:
SHC 21: Introduction to communication in health, social care or children’s and young
people’s settings
SHC 22: Introduction to personal development in health, social care or children’s and
young people’s settings
SHC 23: Introduction to equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and
young people’s settings
TDA 2.1: Child and young person development
TDA 2.2: Safeguarding the welfare of children and young people
TDA 2.7: Maintain and support relationships with children and young people
TDA 2.9: Support children and young people’s positive behaviour
CCLD MU 2.2: Contribute to the support of child and young person development
MU 2.4: Contribute to children and young people’s health and safety
MU 2.8: Contribute to the support of positive environments for children and young people
MU 2.9: Understand partnership working in services for children and young people
How will I be assessed?
All units are internally assessed. Assessment enables the student’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units as well as the whole qualification.
Methods of assessment: observations, professional discussions projects, oral and/ or written questions, witness testimonies.
Progression
This qualification enables credits and learning to be transferred from this qualification to the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (England) providing a direct progression route. Learners can also progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Education and Care (Early Years Educator) and the Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator).
