Accessibility Statement
Weymouth College is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
This accessibility statement applies to https://www.weymouth.ac.uk
We are working to improve the accessibility of our website and ensure it is fully usable by everyone, regardless of technology or ability. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2 AA standard.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with the WCAG 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reason(s):
(a) non-compliance with the accessibility regulations:
- Keyboard navigation and focus
- Some dropdown menus (e.g. ’16–18′ and ‘University Level’) are not accessible via keyboard. (WCAG 2.1.1)
- At zoom levels of 200% and above, keyboard focus becomes lost inside the hamburger menu. (WCAG 2.4.7)
- Focus order is not logical on the Contact page – focus moves to the form before the main navigation. (WCAG 2.4.3)
- Content visibility and interaction
- Dropdowns triggered by hover or focus cannot be dismissed using the keyboard alone. (WCAG 1.4.13)
- The carousel on the homepage auto-advances without the ability to pause, stop, or hide it. (WCAG 2.2.2)
- Contrast issues
- Some text, links, and placeholder text across the site do not meet minimum contrast requirements. (WCAG 1.4.3)
- Link and button accessibility
- Some links and buttons do not have descriptive text or accessible names. (WCAG 2.4.4 and 4.1.2)
- Form and control labelling
- Some form elements lack accessible names. (WCAG 4.1.2)
- There are nested interactive elements. (WCAG 4.1.2)
- Use of images of text
- The site includes decorative banners with text embedded in images. (WCAG 1.4.5)
- PDF accessibility (A Level Guide)
- Poor colour contrast on some sections.
- Missing document title.
- Images without alternative text. (WCAG 1.1.1, 1.4.3, and 2.4.2)
- Semantic markup
- Incorrect use of list markup on ‘About Us’ page. (WCAG 1.3.1)
b) disproportionate burden
The above listed accessibility issues amount to a disproportionate burden on Weymouth College to remediate due to the website being redesigned in 2025 which will be fully compliant.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
Weymouth College is actively working on a full accessibility remediation plan as part of a new website being scoped and developed in 2025.
This includes:
- Redesigning navigation and dropdown components to support full keyboard interaction.
- Enhancing visible focus indicators and correcting focus order on all templates.
- Replacing or supplementing images of text with HTML text equivalents.
- Adding or correcting labels, alt text, ARIA attributes, and accessible names.
- Improving colour contrast site-wide.
- Replacing the carousel or adding controls.
- Tagging and remediating PDFs.
- Including regular accessibility audits.
Timeline for fixing issues
We are currently working with our web development provider and a consultant to fix all the issues, with a launch expected in September 2025.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 7th April 2025. It is based on internal accessibility testing and an external audit conducted by the Government Digital Service (GDS) in September 2024.
It was last reviewed on 7th April 2025.
