Level 1 in Health and Social Care qualification provide a broad introduction to a sector and gives learners the opportunity to demonstrate increased skill levels. It includes theory and practical work, and provides a useful starting point for a career in this industry, and progression into further study.

A DBS check will be carried out as part of the course in order to work with vulnerable people.

Our facilities include the brand new Tyneham building at our Cranford Avenue campus, offering state-of-the-art learning and support resources used for Level 3 Health & Early Years, fitted with a mock hospital ward and children’s nursery.

Entry Requirements

Selection is by interview and a good school or employer reference. There are no formal entry requirements, but you will be expected to show a keen interest in working in the health or social care sector and to demonstrate an ability to cope with the assessment process. Other information such as assessment results, relevant experience and portfolio may be taken into consideration.

Course Content

You will study a mixture of theory and practical work within the course, including units related to an introduction to Health, Social Care.

Units include:

  • Being Organised
  • Developing a Personal Progression Plan
  • Finding Out About Health and Social Care Services
  • Communication Skills for Health and Social Care
  • Advising Others About Healthy Lifestyles
  • Providing a Creative Activity When Caring for People

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed for competency in each unit through the completion of a linked assignment. A pass in all units must be achieved in all areas to gain the full award.

Progression

You will be able to enter employment at trainee level or progress to further education such as the Level 2 qualification in Health and Social Care or Childcare or to an Apprenticeship programme.

Fees

If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee. If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. Bursary funds – There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
