The VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Barbering Studies is a comprehensive course that aims to develop your basic skills and knowledge to become a professional barber

Course Content

Throughout the course, you will cover various units of study, including health and safety, working in the hair industry, client consultation, shampooing and conditioning, cutting hair using barbering techniques, cutting facial hair, and styling hair using barbering techniques.

Entry Requirements

Selection is by interview. You must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade 3 (D) or above to include English and Maths, Science would be an advantage. All applicants will be required to continue to work towards obtaining English and Maths at Grade 4 as well as being committed to improving your own skills and willing to work as part of a team.

How will I be assessed?

You will cover the theoretical and practical work necessary for each unit; this will be tested through online testing with the awarding body and practical assessment. Assessment is continuous throughout the year and will take place within a realistic working environment and assignments.

Progression

Upon successful completion of this qualification, you will have various progression opportunities. You may choose to pursue further VTCT qualifications such as the Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, Level 3 Diploma in Barbering (subject to course availability), or the L2/L3 apprenticeship standards.

(N.B. progression is based on attendance, completion of successful trade test, achievement of barbering qualification (including English and Maths where required).

Tools/Materials

The College library has an extensive lending and reference book stock, in addition to videos and journals. You should set aside approximately £250 for equipment including text books. There will be an additional cost for correct footwear and uniform.

 

Fees

If you are aged 16-18 as of 31 August on the year of enrolment – no course fee.  If you are over 19 as of 31 August and enrolling on a full-time programme of study a tuition fee will be applicable in most cases. Bursary funds – There are financial support arrangements for 16-18 year olds and hardship funds available for the over 19s.
