‘Red for Ruby’ day at Weymouth College

November 29, 2016

Former Weymouth College hairdressing student Pearl Porter has been fund raising to give ‘a brave and inspirational girl’ – her sister eighteen year old Ruby Mai who is fighting a rare and incurable neurological brain disease – the best Christmas she possibly can.

The Hair and Beauty staff and students at Weymouth College were very moved by Ruby’s story and wanted to do all they could to help by organising a college-wide ‘Go Red for Ruby Day’ on 17th November.

Across college, students and staff dressed in red, ate a red lunch, enjoyed red HIX cupcakes, bought raffle tickets and experienced a wide variety of hair and beauty treatments.  The ‘make a donation and pull-a-strip’ staff leg waxing proved particularly popular.

The Hair and Beauty students and staff were overwhelmed by the support across college and were delighted to present Pearl with a cheque for £920 which they hope will help Ruby Mai and her family have the very best Christmas they can.
