This year's annual Arts Foundation trip was to Amsterdam and as usual our budding Artists were great ambassadors for the College.

Last year's trip was to Berlin and this year's was just as insightful for students from our Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art, Design & Media. Predominantly a research trip, students gather research, visual and cultural stimuli for their work. The mornings were spent on group visits to galleries including:

• FOAM for the Rodchenko exhibition
• Huis Marseille for Edward Burtynsky NIMC - a very interesting show called Versions about the multiple perspectives that now exist within the internet
• The Van Gogh Museum
• A fascinating show called Niet Normal which was in an huge old Church and was showing an international selection of artists looking at the idea of abnormality. This show had some very poignant, very fun and indeed disturbing work.

The afternoons and evenings were free for the students to follow their own lines of research to support their independent projects.

The group stayed at the Hans Brinker Hostel and were fed and entertained well by the lively cafes and restaurants that the area had to offer. The snow caused a minor disruption to the group's travel plans but that was made up for by the snow making Amsterdam into an enchanting white and wintery city!
