Useful Information
UK Climate
The weather in Britain changes from day to day and also season to season, so you may need some new clothes. Temperatures can go below 0ºC in winter and up to 30ºC in summer, however these are extremes. The average high temperature in London is 21ºC and the average low is 12ºC.
It often rains, but not every day and strong winds can make it feel colder and wetter.
However, Britain is not a cold country compared with Sweden or Norway in winter. In cold and wet weather most people wear a pullover or fleece and a light waterproof jacket. A small umbrella that you can carry in a bag is often useful.
Health Service
Many international students will be entitled to use the National Health Service (NHS), which offers free health care paid by British tax payers. On arrival you must register with a local doctor, known as a General Practitioner (GP) in Britain, it will take a while for your application to be processed so it is vital you do not wait until you are ill.
A GP is a doctor who treats most illnesses that are non-life threatening and usually operate in a surgery. You will need to have an insurance to visit a dentist.
If you wear glasses you will need to bring your prescription with you.
