Additional Learner Support
Weymouth College is an inclusive college which offers a wide range of support to all learners. This can be on a 1:1 basis or with several learners on a programme in mentoring sessions or workshops. Support is offered to:
- Students with exceptional ability e.g. in special tutoring for research techniques and study skills
- Students who have a learning difficulty and/or disability.
Support can be offered in a range of ways including revision techniques, essay/report writing or more specific help with literacy and/or numeracy. Students are encouraged to disclose additional needs as early as possible in order that the College can support them effectively.
It is important that we know about any absences before 10am on the first day of absence if your son/daughter/ward will not be in College and the likely date of his/her return. If your son/daughter/ward is registered as absent without prior notification you will be contacted immediately.
Any concerns, complaints or suggestions can be communicated informally to the College via the ‘Talkback’ process. Talkback forms can be picked up from main Reception, completed and posted in the College suggestions box, which is checked weekly by the Quality Assurance Officer. For a formal complaint, please put in writing to the Quality Assurance Officer.
Learners with particular difficulties are able to access our confidential and caring counselling service with our highly qualified counselling staff.
Life Coach Directory
Life Coach Directory provides a huge support network, enabling visitors to find a Life Coach close to them and appropriate for their needs.
Weymouth College has a central pool of trained basic First-Aiders, there is a dedicated internal first aid telephone number which is manned on a rota basis by a qualified First Aider. If your son/daughter/ward is unwell you may be required to come and collect them from the College, in an emergency an ambulance will be called and the person on the emergency contact number on the student records will be notified.
The College is committed to ensuring continuing quality improvement. We regularly gather valuable feedback from students, parents/guardians and employers. This is done using surveys and focus groups during the academic year. Summaries of the information will be shared with students and parents via the College website.
Following the College’s recent Ofsted Inspection, please see below link for the full report. Ofsted Inspection Report – June 13 (pdf)
Parents can expect at least two formal reports per year. Subject and personal tutors provide information for the reports.
The College staff continuously review the progress of the learners both formally and informally. During the course of the academic year the College undertakes formal half termly reviews. Those who are behind with work deadlines will be provided with extra help and guidance to enable then to catch up. Formal review dates will be communicated to the students.
We welcome feedback from students, both formally and informally. We will record and act on comments and suggestions to improve our services wherever possible. In addition, we encourage student participation in our Student Council, as Student Representatives for their course/area of study. Through the Council, students have the opportunity to be consulted on and to inform the management of the College.
Students are expected to attend classes on five days per week (Monday to Friday) for taught sessions, as per the College timetable. For further important dates, please check out the Term Dates page.
