What's in it for me?

Last summer, young people signed up to “have fun”, “go away with friends”, and “get some good experience for my CV”.

After completing NCS, they said: “the residentials were brilliant”, “I’ve got loads of new friends now”, “I used to be scared of heights, but now I’ll try anything”.

Taking part in myNCS will give your CV that extra boost to help make you stand out from the crowd when you’re looking for a job or applying for a place at university or college. It’ll help you develop the skills you need for the real world that school doesn’t give you.

These are some of the things participants from 2011 have been able to add to their CV:

“The programme involved some outdoor physical challenges, which enabled me to improve my team working skills as well as my physical fitness and stamina.” Lizzie, Braunton

“Through planning our social action project and working as a team to implement it, I demonstrated my excellent time keeping, project management, practical and team working skills.” Joe, Barnstaple

“I proved my communication, personal presentation and negotiating skills and used my initiative, as I secured free resources from a range of local and national businesses to help us carry out the project.” Michael, South Molton

“I really enjoyed being able to make a positive contribution to the local community by participating in NCS. It has given me a much better understanding of people from other backgrounds, as it enabled me to mix with people I would never have met otherwise.” Kim, Barnstaple
