What is the HIX Academy?
The HIX Academy at Weymouth College is dedicated to discovering and developing the finest young chefs, restaurant staff and bartenders. The only one of its kind in the country, the project is a unique opportunity to combine catering and hospitality qualifications with a range of additional opportunities, including working daily in the HIX Academy restaurant, which is based on Mark HIX’s acclaimed London venues including HIX, Hixter, Tramshed and Marks bars.

Is this a college course?
The HIX academy is a partnership between Weymouth College and Mark Hix, celebrated chef, restaurateur and food writer, and former Weymouth College student. The HIX Academy is a fully commercial restaurant run by students and supported by professional HIX Academy Staff. As one of our team of talented young chefs, waiting staff, bartenders, front of house staff and restaurateurs, you’ll learn your trade and develop your skills in a professional working environment.
Not only will you learn the skills that the UK’s leading restaurant owners and managers demand, but on completion you will also have either a Level 1 NVQ, Level 2 NVQ or Level 3 diploma under your belt too, as well as being better prepared to face the challenge of stepping straight into some of the country’s leading restaurants!
Will Mark be involved?
Yes! This is so much more than a name only partnership. Mark is involved in every aspect of the project – from the course structure to the menu, right through to the restaurant design – so you can expect to learn from the very best.
Sounds great. When does it start?
The academy opened in autumn 2014, the HIX Academy restaurant’s design and interior are inspired by Mark’s string of award-winning London restaurants, which are famed for award-winning best of British food and high art.
Is the restaurant open to the public?
Yes. The restaurant will serve Hix-inspired food with his renowned focus on quality, local, fresh ingredients without the London price-tag. Expect the best of British food with a modern twist plus a sprinkling of international dishes. See the HIX Academy website for more information.
