Child Care, Health & Social Care Department

The area of care studies offers a wide range of full and part-time programmes in health and social care, oral health and childcare. You can study at level 1, 2, 3 or 4 and Foundation Degree, with progression routes available. Learners can study on full and part-time class based programmes or through work based training such as NVQ programmes.

This wide breadth of provision meets the increasing demand from the care studies employment sector for training and development. Full time courses are predominantly within the 16-19 age range and are delivered on site. These are supplemented by AS/A2 or additional courses offering further qualifications relevant to the care studies and child care sector.

The modes of delivery for part-time courses are variable and aim to meet market forces. The majority of courses are delivered outside the traditional college matrix and allow access through part time day and evening classes. The majority of students in this category are 19+, many being in full time employment seeking to gain qualifications to enhance their own skills and experience.

Others undertake training to meet the strict government guidelines laid down for this occupational sector, both for organizations and individuals. These guidelines provide a dynamic learning area that works closely with partnerships and government agencies to provide bespoke training to businesses and individuals. Staff are well qualified and many have been employed in the sector thus providing occupational currency to the programmes.
