AS / A Level

Weymouth and Portland Sixth Form

Weymouth and Portland Sixth Form works in close partnership with our local schools to provide excellent teaching and learning for each student, leading to high levels of academic achievement and progression. We support and encourage each of our students to reach their goals and maximise their potential.

We offer a wide choice!

We offer over 30 separate A Level subject in a variety of combinations, all taught by experienced A level teachers, some of whom are also qualified to teach higher education such as degrees.

We are proud of our results!

Our students achieve excellent academic results, above the national average in examinations. Our latest A Level results produced an impressive 94% pass rate. Many of the subjects we offer achieved a brilliant 100% pass rate.

Our staff are highly experienced and committed to provide a high quality student experience as well as strong personal support and encouragement to help students reach their academic goals and progress on to university or into employment

Our student work in a modern, purpose built environment with specialist labs, computer workshops and general purpose classrooms.

The Sixth Form offers a wide range of Advanced Level subjects taught by our highly qualified members of staff.

Each course tutor has pastoral responsibility for a tutor group.

Pass rates are consistently above the national average and the Sixth Form at Weymouth College A Level performance is in the top 10% in the 16-18 age group.

AS/A Level

  • You select at least 4 AS Levels for the first year of your course
  • Full A Level requires a second year of study
  • You will study a minimum of 3 subjects
  • You will need at least 5 GCSEs
  • Science and Mathematics courses require a 'B' minimum grade at GCSE in the subject to be studied.
  • Students with outstanding GCSE may be eligible to take 5 AS subjects in year one
  • The minimum requirement for progression from AS to A2 courses is a passing grade at AS and a satisfactory record of continuous achievement in the AS year.
