Care Studies

If you want a career where you will really make a difference to people then the care sector could be for you.

There is a huge demand for qualified careers both locally and nationally. Our team of highly qualified lecturers use the experience they have gained while employed as professionals to teach you important links between theory and practice to give you the knowledge to succeed.

Full-time courses are predominantly aimed at the 16 - 19 age range and are delivered at our Cranford Avenue campus. All courses provide an opportunity for you to gain valuable work experience alongside your studies.

Strict government guidelines laid down for this occupational sector, both for organisations and individuals, mean that this is a dynamic learning area that works closely with partnership and government agencies. Staff are well qualified and many have been employed in the sector and this experience helps keep our courses relevant to the world of work.

71% of those gaining employment at the end of the programme were employed in local schools or nurseries (Sept 10). We were award grade 1 provision by cache in April 2011.

Child Care

CACHE is a nationally recognised provider of childcare qualifications. With this qualification you will be able to enter employment, move into an Apprenticeship or progress onto further education.

The Diploma in Child Care and Education qualification is nationally recognised as the qualification of choice for the care of children in private homes, schools including special schools, day and residential nurseries, hospitals, family centres and maternity units. Students who completed this course went on to work in childcare and education at companies such as Wyvern Primary School, Scallywags Nursery and work as private nannies.

Health & Social Care

A Level 1 or 2 qualification is designed to enable you to enter employment at a trainee level within a wide range of Health & Social Care settings. It should be noted that some careers in the health and social care industry have a minimum age for entry.

With a Level 3 qualification you can progress into employment and undertake other related occupational training in the workplace, or you can progress to university for training in nursing, social work, and other related professions. Students who completed previous courses have gained places on courses such as BA (Hons) Community Work at institutions such as Bournemouth University.
